Celebrate safely!
Festivals are a time of joy, music,
celebration and togetherness. However, as an ENT surgeon, I see the impact of
excessive noise during festive celebrations.
Loudspeakers, amplified music, firecrackers
and prolonged exposure to high-volume sound can put considerable stress on our
ears. A sudden loud blast may cause temporary hearing loss, ringing in the ears
(Tinnitus), increased sensitivity to loud sounds (Hyperacusis) or a feeling of
blocked ears. Repeated or prolonged exposure to loud sounds can damage the
delicate sensory cells of the inner ear, potentially leading to permanent
noise-induced hearing loss.
The risk is particularly high in children and
seniors, who may be more vulnerable to the effects of excessive noise. Even
when there are no immediate symptoms, repeated exposure can gradually affect
hearing.
“The solution is not to stop celebrating, but
to celebrate consciously.”
(Festival Noise Safety Checklist
* Maintain distance from loudspeakers and
fireworks
* Limit the duration of loud-noise exposure
* Give your ears regular quiet breaks
* Use earplugs or earmuffs when appropriate
* Keep children and seniors away from very loud sound sources
* Never hold firecrackers close to the ears
* Don't ignore persistent ringing or reduced
hearing
* Consult an ENT specialist if symptoms
persist ) PLEASE PUT THIS IN A BOX
Let our festivals be remembered for the joy
they create, not the noise they leave behind. Protect your hearing!
